Which THREADSTERS have the best "ON AIR RADIO PRESENCE"
3/28/2006 10:32:28 PM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which of you get ON THE AIR often? Which of you do you recognize?

Would it be a good idea if we got on or acknowledged our "CALL SIGNS" on the air?

Sure would be nice to know what ya''ll sound like. I vote for having everyone call in by their moniker.

I do call in by my moniker! Actually, I haven''t called in to any show on the radio in months. I''m about due.

Mark Blankenship
Curmudgeon
Wild Ape
Hardcore Harry
Randall Pretzer

I called in last Saturday when you were with BOB. I''m the one that told the caller RAY to ""put that in his pipe and smoke it.""

Honestly, en re Bob...I have loads of respect for him and consider him to be SOUTH TEXAS'' premier philosopher. But every time I have spoken with him on the air i get the impression he is not listening to what I am trying to say.

He homes on on some minute element of my points and hammers jumping to a conclusion instead of addressing the actuall issue. I suspect he is operating from ""what he thinks"" I might say next, instead of what i actually said. A fallacy I often find myself in when debating SAIDEWALK-CIPHER.

I get the same impression of Bob, but I like him.

Occassionally I disagree with him, like the brute within concept.

I almost called yesterday when Terry Carter announced his dissappointment that voters get to decide what to do with the beach. It is a good thing I didn''t call because I don''t know how good they are with the censor button at the station.

I think Bob''s really interested in ratings and beating the other morning shows out there. Which is why he does that, to sit and study the deatials of a caller''s point, is boring. I think he tries to extract the most commonly recognisable point, address it, and go on quickly... O''Riley does the same thing and it bugs me... but thats radio... without ratings they got no moeny...

Curious...I sometimes...often times...prefer Common Sense with Bob Jones, is is the show in which I first heard Bob Jones with the analysis, cool guests (like Maynard Ferguson) and a more meaty show.

Rev. Jones, if you read this, take that for what it is. One man''s opinion...I simply perfer the Saturdays.

You say it like its a bad thing...

You''ve got to realise the forum your tuning in to, AM morning radio. Their goal, to get as many people listing so they can sell that audience to advertisers. without that there is no radio... I think Bob tries to make the show as ""meaty"" as possible while still being competive in the market. If you want more indepth stuff, your just not gonna find it on the AM dial at 8:00 in the morning.

...''tis the nature of the animal then. However, that makes it a bit disengenuous when they try to take a moral footing...is it genuine or the smoke and mirrors of rating sweeps.

That may be my point.

Since I have met Major, and hear him fairly often, I would say that he has one of the best on air presence.

On the other hand, I have heard Wild Ape and Young Wife on the radio only once. But it was memorable. I was driving home and Young Wife was abusing Wild Ape on air. Making him do the dishes if I remember correctly. I was laughing pretty hard.

I do recall others calling in, but they don''t stick out like the ones that I mentioned.

As far as using ""Call Signs"", I use my real name, Terry, most of the time. Last week when Arnold mentioned my call sign, I used that when calling in.

I almost forgot to mention Jenni. I recognize her voice in a sec. She has a great on air presence. She seems very comfortable.

You have one of the best Major, I enjoyed wild ape and his wife when they were on, that was nice. A non political discussion they had, interesting to just get loose and down to earth sometimes instead of always just discussing big issues.

hardcore is good

I think all of them have a presence, they do well on the air and make good points, I can''t and won''t speak for myself except I have lost every debate I have had on there with either Eric or the times with John, their old producer Ben and Dawn. I let myself get sidetracked too much.

radio ratings...

Without subscribing and paying money I think its kinda hard to get up to date detailed ratings...

But I can tell you in the fall of 04 KEYS and KKTX had a 2.6 rating and in the spring of 05 KEYS had a 2.7 while KKTX had 2.2.

I think thouse numbers are % of the market, and I think I saw the corpus Market (defined as the population over 12) was around 300,000.... I think...

I''m not sure if data even exists for local stations ratings throughout the day... Maybe someone can fill us in.

Arnold Gonzalez Jr vs Me
3/17/2006 1:14:21 PM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can anyone explain why Arnold felt the need to come on to the morning show to pummel me?

As a Liberal, I thought Arnold was the champion of the minority, women's rights and civil liberties. Well after this morning-- he can tear up his ACLU card-- cuz if I'm not saying exactly what he wants to hear-- then -- according to him-- I need to SHUT UP, STAY HOME-- RAISE BABIES and hide like the coward he says I am.

Arnold, you should be really proud of yourself-- today-- you beat up a woman.

But hey-- after the assault was on-- I got in few good shots that landed too.

This morning was crazy.

Jenni

I don''t even listen to him. He does not even come close the the way I think. I have heard him in the past and after ROFLMAO,I tuned in another station.

It is a toss up between him and ""GoatBoy"".

In my opinion Jenny, you gave him an ol'' fashioned whippin''. I don''t think he is even in the same league as you. I find Arnold to be an instigator. He will make comments initially, but then he will back away and let someone else fight the fight.

I find his opinions to be driven by saying what he belives the public wants to hear. Several times I have heard him on ""It''s All Good"", say one thing and then turn around a few minutes later and support something that is completely opposite.

As Michael Savage says, ""Liberalism is a mental disorder"". Thanks for proving him right Arnold! Very few of your thoughts are in order.

After this bout:

Quite simply, you were outdebated. That does speak to the quality of Arnold''s position, but to his ability verbally outmaneuver you.

The other problem this morning is one I assumed would happen and, indeed, it did. It''s All Good works because Eric and Arnold''s balance sense of humor with their ''debate''. Without humor it became antagonism--both of you wanted to ''win'' even when there was no topic being discussed. It was a good experiment, but needs to be much more effectively moderated next time--if there is a next time.

Hey Frank, I have to agree with you on the ""outdebated"" comment. I don''t know why he felt a need to come on this morning to desumate and discredit me. But he did come out with some wild punches that made me mad and kept me off balance.

Eventually though, a couple of his punches landed back on him. He disavowed having run his mouth, but Bob kept calling him on that.

He may have talked more and may have been more fluent, but what he did say was fluff and then trite.

How else could something like this be mderated?

I am sorry I missed it, although I am not surprised Arnold turned it into an opportunity to debase you.

The Arnold/Eric segment on Wednesdays only works because Eric and Arnold are friends. (Lord knows why!) Arnold fancies himself the voice of moderation and compromise here in the backwater berg. However, outside of the ""It''s All Good"" segment he and will take every opportunity to make his ""C"" average Yale education the focal point of his time on the air. If he cannot beat you on the facts, he will commence to beat you with his credentials.

I can only imagine he felt threatened by you; otherwise, he would not have taken the offensive. After all you offer listeners something that Arnold is most sorely lacking.....
